چکیده

A model was developed to estimate total suspended solids (TSS) removal in the Stormceptor, an oil/sediment separator. The model was based on a commonly used continuous simulation model (USEPA SWMM) for hydrological processes. The suspended solids’ loading was estimated using build-up and wash-off equations. The solids were assumed to be distributed into five particle sizes for settling calculations. Simulations were conducted using various assumptions of loading and settling velocities to determine the sensitivity of the model to assumptions. Simulations were also conducted for a diverse range of geographic areas to determine the sensitivity of the TSS removal rates to regional hydrology. The model was sensitive to the selection of settling velocities and pollutant loading. The model was less sensitive to changes in hydrology although significant changes in hydrology did impact TSS removal estimates.

An Integrated Approach for Modeling Water Flow and Solute Transport in the Vadose Zone

As geographical information systems (GIS) are increasingly being applied to surface and subsurface flow and transport modeling issues, it becomes important to more clearly define potential advantages and achievable objectives with this technology. This chapter describes an integrated conceptual framework for predicting basin-scale solute loading rates through and from the vadose zone. The appro...

A GIS-based variable source area hydrology model

E€ective control of nonpoint source pollution from contaminants transported by runo€ requires information about the source areas of surface runo€. Variable source hydrology is widely recognized by hydrologists, yet few methods exist for identifying the saturated areas that generate most runo€ in humid regions. The Soil Moisture Routing model is a daily water balance model that simulates the hyd...

Improving risk estimates of runoff producing areas: formulating variable source areas as a bivariate process.

Predicting runoff producing areas and their corresponding risks of generating storm runoff is important for developing watershed management strategies to mitigate non-point source pollution. However, few methods for making these predictions have been proposed, especially operational approaches that would be useful in areas where variable source area (VSA) hydrology dominates storm runoff. The o...

An Interface between the Agricultural Non-Point Source (AGNPS) Pollution Model and the ERDAS Imagine Geographic Information System (GIS)

1082-4006/06/1201-09$5.00 ©2006 The International Association of Chinese Professionals in Geographic Information Science (CPGIS) Abstract The U.S. Department of Agriculture developed the Agricultural Non-Point Source (AGNPS) pollution model. The AGNPS pollution model simulates the behavior of runoff, sediment, and nutrient transport from watersheds that have agriculture as their prime use. This...
